October, 2012

2010 wines are available for sale this month. We had hoped to release these wines several months ago but we stuck to our policy of “no wine before its time” and these big reds needed a bit more aging. We think the extra time and work we did will be well worth the wait.

Like all of our Sky Island wines, the 2010 Sky Island Grenache showcases the unique characteristics of the grapes grown in the Chiricahua Mountains. This bottling is comprised of 82% Grenache and 18% Petite Sirah aged for 21 months in all neutral oak barrels. We produced 162 cases.

Winemaker Notes: Fruit and spice with nice acidity. Wine will pair well with light beef dishes, poultry, fish, and cheeses.
Price: $22.00

The 2010 Grenache was crafted from 100% Chiricahua Mountain fruit aged in 100% new French oak barrels for 21 months. The wine is comprised of 90% Grenache and 10% Petite Sirah. We produced 45 cases.

Winemaker Notes: Rich and toasty. Wine will pair well with a variety of foods or serve by itself.
Price: $25.00

The 2010 Petite Sirah is comprised of 33% Petite Sirah aged in new French oak barrels, 49% Petite Sirah aged in neutral barrels, and 18% Grenache aged in neutral barrels. This full-bodied wine is a true reflection of the Petite Sirah varietal from the Chiricahua Mountains. This wine is our exciting follow up to the Wine Spectator 88 rated 2009 Petite Sirah; though the wine is very different. The wine was aged for 22 months and we produced 122 cases.

Winemaker Notes:
Dark fruits come forward followed by spice and a kiss of oak. This wine is great with pasta and grilled foods.
Price: $25.00

Our first white wine – 2011 Viognier – is getting rave reviews from folks and sales are brisk. To emulate the characteristics of food friendly and zesty Sauvignon Blancs and dry Rieslings, this 100% Viognier was harvested from two-year-old Lawrence Dunham Vineyards vines at low sugar levels and fermented and aged in stainless steel. We produced 65 cases.

Winemaker Notes: Crafted to pair well with seafood, light salads, or as a refresher on a warm afternoon.

“The Signature” reflects our belief that Petite Sirah is going to be the signature grape of our estate and of the Chiricahua Mountains. Our terroir brings out the most striking features of the grape and we are looking forward with great anticipation to many amazing vintages. Around here we call it “liquid midnight” but you can enjoy it any time of the day! 100% Petite Sirah, 83% aged in new American oak barrels for 22 months. We produced 134 cases of this special wine.

Winemaker Notes: Bold, toasty, and spicy. This wine is great with bold flavored dishes or rich grilled meats.

We still have plenty of 2009 wines left but if you are contemplating picking up some more, move quickly! We have several big events coming up and don’t want you to be left out of LDV’s historic first vintage.
