Curt in the Dirt - Winery Updates Back to Winery Updates

April, 2017

LDV Winery conducted our first library tasting of older vintages (2008 to 2011) to see how they are aging. Participants were very pleased with the outcome and agree that the wines can continue to age. Curt felt the depth and complexity of the wines are continuing to evolve very nicely.

The 2014 Viognier was recently bottled. This Viognier was barrel fermented and aged for 27 months in neutral Hungarian oak barrels and new French oak hybrid barrels.

This aging process will bring out the tropical flavors, apples, apricots and vanilla wafers with a kiss of oak. The 2014 Viognier will be available for tasting and purchase in early to mid-May.

We have been racking LDV’s 2016 red wines this month. Curt and Mike racked approximately 3,000 gallons of wine. Racking is LDV’s wine clarifying technique and it provides a great opportunity to check to see how the wine is evolving. Additionally, the 2015 Sky Island Viognier is being cold stabilized which takes about two weeks per tank at 32 degrees. We anticipate bottling the 2015 Sky Island Viognier at the end of May.

Curt will begin seriously tasting the 2014 red wines to determine what he wants to do with them. Decisions such as if they will be all single varietal wines or if some blends will be produced will be made over the next few weeks. It is critical to have everything bottled by crush.
