Holiday Gift Giving – Buy Local; Buy LDV Wines!

It has been one year since we opened the Wine Gallery in Old Town Scottsdale. It has been an action-packed year.

The LDV Wine Gallery was selected as Best Tasting Room 2015 by the New Times newspaper and Phoenix Magazine (December 2015) featured a photo of LDV R.E.D. stating that LDV Wine Gallery was the place to purchase white or red wine to make an impression this holiday season. They loved them all. The holidays are here and LDV gift baskets and gift certificates are available for the wine lovers on your list.

Besides LDV’s 100% estate grown grapes and produced wines at our winery in the Chiricahua Mountain Foothills in southeastern Arizona, we have partnered with other like-minded Arizona producers – The Simple Farm, Sphinx Date Co., AZ Pistachios, Red Rock Lavender, and Chocofin Chocolatier – for our gift baskets.

Here is a link to view all the gift baskets and available gifts at the Wine Gallery. Place your order by contacting the Wine Gallery at 480.664.4822 or info@ldvwinery.com.

We are also running “Shop Local” discounts on LDV wines and Arizona products at the Wine Gallery until Christmas.

The beautiful vineyard and grape photography by Arizona photographer Jenelle Bonifield is showcased in the art gallery. The Wine Gallery is hosting a “Through the Grapevine” Holiday Open House Saturday December 12 between 2:00 and 6:00 PM. It will be a great time to meet the photographer, see the new images on display, and place your holiday orders. Wine discounts and nibbles will be available.

Thank you for your continued support!

Winery Update – Barrel Blather

LDV Wine Gallery

Never thought we would get here so fast but the wine we produced this fall will translate into about 3,000 cases of wine. We thought we might get to this point at buildout but not with only 2/3 of our vineyard planted. Pretty amazing.

Due to the amount of fruit and the prolonged harvest, we are behind in bottling the next wines to hit the market. We still anticipate the 2013 barrel fermented and aged Viognier coming out soon as well as the 2012 Petite Sirah dessert wine. We are almost sold out of our award winning 2012 Syrah so we need to bottle the 2013 as soon as possible. We barrel sampled some 2013 Grenache at the Harvest Festival and those of you that had a chance to try it know what special juice is coming your way, probably late spring 2016.

Hard to believe we have over 15,000 gallons of wine in tanks and barrels in the barrel room. Logistics have become a new challenge but so far, the design of our building and operation are holding up well. Growth continues to bring on more challenges. Come down to the Wine Gallery and take some wine home, I need the space!

Curt in the Dirt

With a successful harvest under our belt, the vines are going dormant for the short winter. And I finally shaved my playoff beard (hockey fans will get this), harvest is our “playoffs” as winemakers.

We had our first hard frost just before Thanksgiving and the leaves have turned from colorful orange, yellow, red, and green to brown just about overnight.

The leaves will soon drop and show us how much pruning we need to do early next year!

We also completed our fall nutrient program last week as we gave the plants one more shot of fertilizer to stimulate root development and build up the carbohydrates for the winter. Considering the amount of fruit we harvested – about 60 tons - the vineyard looks in very good shape.

Over the winter and going into spring, we are going to be implementing a more aggressive weed control protocol that we anticipate will cut down on the amount of spraying we will need to do next summer. We are going to be applying a pre-emergent solution that will stop the weeds from coming up instead of having to control them after they have germinated. Stay tuned for how this works!

An update on the orchard, we had our first significant apple harvest this year and we also picked quite a few almonds. We are hoping the cherries and pears kick in next summer! We froze a bunch of apples and will be enjoying LDV apple pies this winter.
