Vol. 6 Issue 1 LDVWineGallery.com August 2015
LDV Winery Friends:
Harvest starts in the few days! The vineyard is filled with incredible grape clusters and the winery is filled with soon-to-be released wines. To make room for the new releases, we need to have all of you take home some 2013 Sky Island Viognier. We are offering this wine by the case for $99. That’s about $8 a bottle and less than half of the current $18 retail price! At that price, this should become your everyday drinking white wine! Reserve your case today or stop in the Wine Gallery and pick one up. Act now as this offer is only good through September 15. Don't forget the Summer Six-Pak Special extended through September 15th. Fill your LDV reusable six-pak bag with wine and receive 10% off.

We are excited that the Wine Gallery has become a regular hang-out for the neighborhood, the perfect meet-up spot with clients or friends, an event space for special organizations ranging from bridal showers to team-building, wine appreciation workshops, and the go-to shop for great wines and that special gift. Meet friends there for drinks after work or schedule a work event. The Thursday night Flights & Bites starts back up September 10th and we anticipate it getting busy so make a reservation so the Chef is prepared.
We are looking forward to an action-filled fall/winter season. Help us spread the word. Let us know if you can make it down to the vineyard during the harvest or we’ll see you soon at the Wine Gallery.

Announcing New Sky Islander Wine Club Levels
Our wine club family is such an important part of what the LDV Winery is all about. When we started this journey, we wanted to create the highest quality wine possible from our special place and share every step of the way with friends. In response to feedback, we have expanded opportunities to receive our latest wine releases and for you to get involved.

There are three levels of LDV Winery Sky Islander Wine Club to choose from: Chiricahua Circle, Pinnacle, and Summit. Each level includes two wine packages (shipped or pick up) per year (spring and fall) with winemaker notes and pairing recipes. As always, wine club members are eligible for special club only events, pick up parties, great discounts, and 4th Friday’s Club Night at the Wine Gallery. Referral and longevity rewards program benefits are now available too!

Curt in the Dirt
Harvest is just around the corner. We are currently preparing the vineyard for the big event. Our last weed mitigation was completed and mowing continues in the rows due to the significant amount of rain received to date. Over eight inches in July which is above average for the month. Our record was 13 inches in July 2008.  We recently “green harvested” which is dropping un-ripened grapes due to the heavy crop load. The LDV cluster inventory that was done after full fruit set estimated up to 10 tons per acre of Viognier fruit. Our goal is about half of that so half of the crop had to be removed.  It makes you sick to work so hard to reach the point where you have a great crop and then need to cut off. It is better to have a great crop and cut it off then to not have a crop at all. LDV also green harvested Grenache and Petite Sirah this year.

Veraison is when the sugar levels start to rise causing the grape to change in color and is almost complete. This change is most evident in the red grapes changing them from green to purple but the white grapes also change to a more yellowish color. Veraison started in the middle of July which was about 10 days early. (Read the Rest of the Story)

Winery Update
OMG LDV has a lot of wonderful wine that has been aging in the cellar and are now ready for bottling! LDV production level is still about 2,000 cases per year for 2013 and 2014 vintages.
We just bottled the 2012 Petite Sirah and 2012 The Signature Petite Sirah. Boy are you in for a treat soon! We are excited about having amazing juice to do another Signature bottling this year. We are also preparing to bottle our first dessert wine – the Epilogue. It is 100% Petite Sirah that has been aging 35 months in new American oak. Like any great novel there is something at the end to tie all of the stories together – the Epilogue. The LDV Epilogue will be that punctuation mark at the end of a special meal. We have never encountered a 100% Petite Sirah dessert wine. LDV had such amazing depth of fruit in 2012 that just screamed dessert. (Read the Rest of the Story)
