Springtime & New Releases
April 1st, 2015
Peggy Fiandaca

It is springtime at Lawrence Dunham Vineyards.

With the warmer weather comes bud break on the vines, trees blooming, and much anticipation for the 2015 vintage.

Bud break late March in the vineyard which is a little later than last year but a bit earlier than average.
We tried to retard bud break by increasing our water over the winter along with an aggressive nutrient program – seems to have worked!
Bud break at Lawrence Dunham Vineyards

Many other vineyards are much farther along with bud break. We do this because we like to delay bud break as long as possible to avoid exposure to late frost and push the harvest into the cooler weather of September.

Spring also announces the release of three new wines.

Lawrence Dunham Vineyards   2013 Sky Island Viognier As we continue to experience the wonders of the Sky Island region, this offering showcases the purity of our mountain fruit. The 2013 harvest was challenging as heavy late summer rains delayed ripening.

The vine’s roots are also penetrating into the very rocky subsoil of our vineyard. The result is a lower alcohol and lighter wine featuring dried apricots with a clean finish of flint and minerals.

A dry, crisp wine to complement the outdoor lifestyle we enjoy. Enjoy with seafood, especially shellfish, lemon chicken, spicy foods, or as an aperitif on a warm afternoon. 385 cases produced. $18

Lawrence Dunham Vineyards   2012 Grenache We did not get a Grenache crop in 2011, so we are really excited to present the 2012 Grenache to follow up with our very popular sold-out 2010 Grenache and 2010 Sky Island Grenache.

As the vines are maturing, the wines from them are becoming much more full-bodied, showing intense fruit with hints of licorice and toast.

This bottling is comprised of 79% Grenache and 21% Petite Sirah aged for 30 months half neutral and half in new French oak barrels. A versatile wine to enjoy with many types of food. Will cozy up with anything off the grill such as chicken kabobs, pork, salmon, or seared Ahi tuna. 286 cases produced. $25

Lawrence Dunham Vineyards   2012 Syrah We have waited almost three long years to release our first 100% estate grown and produced Syrah.

This bottling is 100% Syrah grapes aged in one-year-old American oak barrels for 30 months. A full-bodied wine showing classic Syrah characteristics including dark berries, leather, and a hint of mocha.

Enjoy with blue veined and parmesan cheeses, grilled meats, and wood-fired pizza. 48 cases produced. $32

See a description of all the current Lawrence Dunham Vineyards wines here and order them online or stop by the Wine Gallery. Coming soon will be new 2012 Petite Sirahs, 2013 barrel-fermented Viognier, and the highly anticipated release of our first dessert wine – The Epilogue. We have many events planned at the Wine Gallery including every Thursday night Flights & Bites and monthly Sip & Learn workshops through June.

Mark your calendar for the Grape to Glass Symposium on August 1st at the winery in the Chiricahuas. We are exploring the possibility of having a “Party Bus” from the Wine Gallery to the winery for the Symposium – what do you think?
