Curt in the Dirt - Winery Updates Back to Curt in the Dirt

August, 2017

LDV Winery
Getting down to crunch time! We have begun checking the grape sugars and so far, the furthest along grapes are, as usual, the Viognier. Looks like we are about a week or so away from harvest but a lot depends on the weather.

We are spraying mineral oil tomorrow and again next week to combat bunch rot that I have heard many others are battling. We have not had many signs of it and we want to keep it that way! The crop load I would consider quite heavy but we are having a bit of uneven ripening.
We have some clusters that are looking quite ripe but still containing some green berries. Not sure why, perhaps the intense heat we experienced. We had over 6 inches of rain the last half of July which has really perked things up.

The grasses (and weeds) are growing like mad, fortunately, the steps we took earlier in the season are paying off as we have very little vegetation popping up in the rows.
