Curt in the Dirt - Winery Updates Back to Curt in the Dirt

June, 2016

Flowering is nearing completion and the pollinated flowers are now forming baby grapes. Even though we have had some very windy days, the clusters that are forming are looking good. The plants are now needing all of the energy they can get as they are starting to grow the fruit as well as continuing to develop the canopy.

To ensure that the plants are getting everything they need, we have just taken post-flowering petiole samples and sent them off to the lab for analysis. The petiole is the section of the plant that connects the shoots to the leaves and it contains all of the nutrients available in the plant.

By analyzing the nutrients present (or not present) we can ensure the plants have everything that they need to prosper and grow yummy grapes!

Depending on what the analysis finds, we may inject some trace elements into the irrigation system or spray micronutrients onto the leaves.
