Curt in the Dirt - Winery Updates Back to Curt in the Dirt

January, 2017

LDV Winery
We have completed over half of the pruning with the Road Block Petite Sirah, Grenache, and Syrah all cleaned up and ready to go for bud break. On to the Viognier and Building Block Petite! This is the first year we have had a separate pruning strategy for each of our varietal blocks. As we learn more about our vines, the varietal characteristics, and the various production levels, customized farming practices are starting to be formed. In this business, you never get very far from school!
We had some nice rainfall and a bit of snow in January that resulted in over 3 inches of precipitation. We have not had to irrigate for the whole month which is nice for the electric bill! However, unless we get a very wet February, we will begin to water heavily in early March to make sure the vines are well hydrated as they begin to emerge from their winter slumber.
