Curt in the Dirt - Winery Updates Back to Curt in the Dirt

February, 2016

As we learn more about our vineyard, the plants, and the characteristics of our four varietals, we are continually tweaking our protocols and practices.

Last year, our vineyard management costs during the growing season were much higher than normal. The majority of the additional costs were attributed to weed control and plant vigor. To mitigate this in 2016 we have implemented changes to be more proactive in dealing with these two issues.

We are also in the process of changing our winter pruning techniques to address the amount of in-season vineyard work and heavy fruit set we experienced last year. Past pruning practices have made the vineyard more difficult to work and forced us to drop a lot of fruit thus raising costs and putting unnecessary stress on the vines. We are hoping our technique changes will help.
